Worlds first 4K Ultra-HD display laptops From Toshiba
All major
computing and mobile technology related firms have been making interesting
showcases of their upcoming products and technologies at CES 2014. Toshiba
unveiled what seem to be the world's first ever 4K laptops at the ongoing event
in Las Vegas. The two laptops, Tecra W50 and the Satellite P50t will not only
feature full 4K Ultra-HD displays but will also run the new Windows 8.1
operating systems. Pricing and availability were not revealed by the
company. While the target audience for the powerful devices are across a wide
segment, if reports are to be believed then the devices are a little on the
chunkier side, with the stunning display in tow.
The Toshiba
Tecra W50 is designed for professionals working with graphically-intensive
applications, packing an integrated NVIDIA Quadro K2100M graphics with 2GB
dedicated memory, fourth generation Intel Core processor, and a 15.6-inch 4K
Ultra-HD display (3840 x 2160), 282 PPI, colour calibrated display.
The second
on the list is the Satellite P50t, which features the same display and
resolution as the Tecra W50 and has an integrated touch functionality along
with it. It could be safer to assume that the device will be targeted towards a
more younger audience. The 4K Ultra-HD screen also features edge-to-edge glass
with vibrant colour, crystal clarity, and higher contrast. Both the Toshiba 4K
laptops will go on sale in the middle of 2014. The pricing of the devices
hasn't been revealed either. Toshiba might just charge top dollar for the two
devices, as industry pundits are predicting.
Toshiba Encore 8-inch Windows Tablet
Toshiba the company which is usually more
active in the laptop segment has launched a new tablet, the Toshiba Encore. The
Toshiba Encore comes with an 8-inch HFFS multi-touch display (1280x800 pixels).
The tablet weighs about 479 grams. It is powered by an Intel Bay Trail Atom
processor. The company says that the Encore has been developed in close
collaboration with Microsoft and has been optimized for Windows 8.1. It is also
compatible with both Windows 8 apps (Modern UI apps) and legacy Windows
programs. It sports an 8-megapixel rear camera and a 2-megapixel front-facing
camera. The tablet is equipped with dual-microphones and is optimized for
Skype.
The Toshiba Encore includes 2GB of RAM and
there is 32GB of internal storage which can be further expanded up to 32GB with
the help of a microSD card. Connectivity options on the tablet include a
Micro-USB port, Micro-HDMI port and Wi-Fi. The tablet comes preloaded with the
full version of Microsoft Office Home & Student 2013 and Xbox SmartGlass
app that turns the device into a secondary screen for the Xbox 360 and Xbox One
gaming consoles. Commenting on the launch Carl Pinto, vice president of
marketing, Toshiba America Information Systems, Inc., Digital Products Division
said, "Encore is poised to re-energize the opportunity for Windows tablets
in the market. Our fundamental approach to designing Encore was to create a
better convergence of hardware and software so the overall app experience and
capabilities on a Windows-based device is better than ever. Windows has a lot
to offer for a tablet user, and with the new features that Windows 8.1 brings,
we believe that Encore will deliver more choice against a range of competitive
tablets."
The Toshiba Encore tablet will hit the market
shelves in November and will come with a price tag of $329.99. Jordan
Chrysafidis, vice president of Worldwide OEM Marketing, Microsoft Corp. said,
"We look forward to working with Toshiba on the launch of Windows 8.1 and
seeing its holiday 2013 devices delight customers worldwide." Earlier,
Acer launched the Iconia W3 which was the first Windows 8 tablet to come with
an 8.1-inch screen.
