Seagate announces 660 SSD - First Solid-State drive
Seagate has unveiled
660 SSD, its first solid-state drive (SSD)
for consumers, while also announcing its next-generation enterprise
SSDs, Seagate 600 Pro SSD and the Seagate 1200 SSD.
Seagate 600 SSD is a
laptop-friendly drive that offers nearly four times faster boot times and two
times faster application load times when compared with a standard hard drive.
The Seagate 600 SSD is available in multiple z-heights including a 5mm-high
drive making it ideal for use in most ultra-thin devices. The drive features up
to 480GB of capacity and incorporates a 6Gbps SATA interface.There's no word
yet on the pricing or availability details of the Seagate 600 SSD.
Seagate 600 Pro, on
the other hand, is an entry-level enterprise drive that aims to combine fast
performance and lower power to deliver performance efficiency and IOPS/ watt
value. It, too, is available in up to 480GB capacities and comes in 2.5-inch
form factor with a 6Gbps SATA interface.
The Seagate 1200 SSD
is designed for demanding enterprise storage and server applications with
complex, write-intensive mixed workloads, such as high-performance computing
and data analytics. It incorporates a dual-port 12Gbps SAS connector, while
retaining backwards compatibility with 6Gbps SAS environments. The Seagate 1200
SSD is available with up to 800GB capacity and comes in either a 1.8-inch or
2.5-inch form factor.
