Samsung Launched New Television Model for Rs. 27,00,000
Samsung has launched its first Ultra
High Definition (UHD) or 4K television, Samsung UHD 85S9 in the Indian market
for Rs. 27,00,000. The 85-inch television was first showcased at Consumer
Electronic Show (CES), earlier this year. The television sports a minimalistic
design with the screen appearing to be floating within a frame that holds it.
It has a native resolution of 3840x2160 pixels, four times that of a full-HD
television. The 85S9 television includes Samsung's proprietary up-scaling
engine to up-convert HD or full-HD content to UHD-level picture quality. In
addition to the up-scaling engine, Samsung says it's also working to remove
conflicts related to UHD content industry standards. Powered by a quad-core
processor, the new 4K panel is a smart TV and comes with support for
installable apps as well as built-in Wi-Fi. Also included is a full Web
browser. The TV also comes with a camera for using video communication apps
such as Skype. The TV comes with built-in Wi-Fi. It also offers support for
viewing 3D content. Furthermore, it also provides advanced interaction that
responds to motion and voice for navigating and controlling the TV. Users can
now rotate images, or zoom in and out with two hands. Voice control capabilities have also been
enhanced to now understand more than 300 commands with better language
recognition rates as per the company. In
addition, its new Smart Touch Control has all the number keys replaced by a
touch pad, on which users can simply write the channel number they want and
flip and scroll the screen.
The television also includes Samsung's One Connect
solution to eliminate cable clutter by requiring only one cable to connect to
the TV and comes with 120-watt array speakers built into the frame of the
television to offer an enhanced audio experience. Announcing the launch of the
Samsung UHD TV 85S9, Atul Jain, Sr Vice President, Samsung India said,
"The Timeless Gallery Design of the Samsung UHD TV meets the need of
premium customers for Innovative design coupled with Best in Class performance.
The UHD TV offers a resolution that is four-times better than that of full HD
TVs, and UHD screens offer enhanced clarity with rich colours." Just a few
weeks back, Sony had launched two new 4K televisions, part of its Bravia
X-series, the KD-55X9004A 55-inch and KD-65X9004A 65-inch televisions at a
price point of Rs. 3,04,900 and Rs. 4,04,900, respectively. Sony uses its
latest video processing engine, X-Reality Pro for upscaling content and
integrates its Triluminos display technology for accurate colour reproduction
in its 4K televisions. Sony had previously launched its 84-inch 4K TV in the
Indian market for Rs. 16,99,990, in October 2012. LG had also launched its
84-inch 4K television in India, last October at a price of Rs. 17,00,000. It
features Intel's Wireless Display technology and built-in Wi-Fi.
Samsung Announces 5G Data Breakthrough
Samsung
Electronics said Monday it had successfully tested super-fast fifth-generation
(5G) wireless technology that would eventually allow users to download an
entire movie in one second. The South Korean giant said the test had witnessed
data transmission of more than one gigabyte per second over a distance of two kilometers.
The new technology,
which will not be ready for the commercial market before 2020 at the earliest,
would offer transmitting speeds "up to several hundred times faster"
than existing 4G networks, it said in a statement. That will permit users to
"transmit massive data files including high quality digital movies
practically without limitation", it said.
"As a result,
subscribers will be able to enjoy a wide range of services such as 3D movies
and games, real-time streaming of ultra high-definition (UHD) content, and
remote medical services," it added.
Samsung said it had
found a way to harness millimeter-wave bands which have proved to be a sticking
point for the mobile industry to date. The test used 64 antenna elements, which
the tech titan said overcame the issue of "unfavourable propagation characteristics"
that have prevented data travelling across long distances using the bands.
